{April 19, 2021} Arnold, MO – Meramec Heights Elementary School music educator, Kathy Hann, was awarded with the Creativity and Innovation in Teaching Award for 2021 by the Missouri Alliance for Arts Education (MAAE).

Dr. Dustin Bain, principal at Meramec Heights Elementary said, “The award of creativity and innovation in teaching is a very fitting award for Mrs. Hann. Each time I stop by Mrs. Hann’s classroom shows me a new way she is engaging the students as well as getting them involved in the learning through technology and innovation.”

“I am so impressed with the way Kathy shows her students real-world examples of best practices in action”, said Phyllis Pasley, Executive Director of MAAE. “Her innovative approach to music education helps students have fun and has a lasting impact on the positive development of her students’ academic, cognitive, and social-emotional growth.

"It is my joy to serve as an educator. I believe that the fine arts are an essential component of every student’s educational experience.  Research shows that music helps to develop social-emotional learning and critical thinking skills that are vital to prepare students to be leaders of tomorrow”, Kathy Hann said. “My students learn through the integration of character education, service-learning, community partnerships, and STEAM in the music classroom. I am an advocate for lifelong learning; I seek professional development opportunities to study research-based best practices to improve student learning and collaborate with my professional learning community.  My personal goal is to empower my students to develop life skills to be future ready and inspire them to be champions of their own achievement and character.”
