{May 11, 2021} ARNOLD, MO – For the second time, the Don Earl Early Childhood Center has been named a National School of Character by the national not-for-profit organization Character.org. This recognition is given to schools that have achieved a standard of excellence in the area of character development through their exemplary implementation of Character.org’s 11 Principles of Effective Character Education, a framework for whole-school improvement.

“The staff at the Don Earl Early Childhood Center strive to create a culture of character that reaches students and families in the Fox Community and beyond,” Dr. Robert Townsley, Director of Early Childhood Education said. “I am proud of the creative approaches that our staff has taken to ensure a focus on Character Education this year.”

“I am so incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication of the entire staff at the Early Childhood Center,” said Dr. Nisha Patel, Fox C-6 Superintendent. “Everything that the staff at Don Earl does is with a focus on building a solid foundation of academics and character development and it shows with this recognition.”

This year, 47 individual schools from across the country were named National Schools of Character. “We are pleased to announce and celebrate the schools and school district that have earned this national recognition,” said Dr. Arthur Schwartz, President of Character.org. “The educators at these schools model and reinforce the core values of respect and dignity. They are teaching their students to be honest and trustworthy, to contribute their time and talents to the common good, and when necessary, to show the courage to stand up for what is right.”

Since its inception, the National Schools of Character program has impacted over 3 million students, staff, parents, and community members. The schools and districts that apply must meet the rigorous standards articulated in Character.org’s 11 Principles Framework for Schools. Each school is assessed by a team of trained evaluators.

In addition to being named a National School of Character, the Don Earl Early Childhood Center was named a National School of Character in 2016 and has also been recognized with 13 Promising Practice Awards from Character.org for the implementation of unique and specific strategies for targeting character education.
