Dr. Wipke Addresses Crowd During Parent Summit

{April 4, 2017} Arnold, MO – On March 29th, the Fox C-6 School District welcomed over 600 parents to Rickman Auditorium and the Fox Campus for the first year of the Fox C-6 Parent Summit. The Summit was designed to provide parents with the opportunity to register for sessions that are relevant to parents’ interests. Nearly 50 breakout sessions were available to choose from, presented by staff members and community partners who volunteered their time to make the event a success.

“Facilitating this event was a huge undertaking,” said organizer and Assistant Principal Marilyn Jackson. “I'm so proud to say that our team did a great job...It could not have went any better for a first time event!”

Parents who arrived early were able to attend a spaghetti dinner, provided courtesy of the Fox and Seckman High School administration teams as a way to thank parents for taking the time. Then parents attended an opening session facilitated by student leaders with opening comments from Superintendent Jim Wipke, who provided information about the state of the district. Parents were then released to their breakout sessions, guided by student volunteers.

“Having well informed parents enables us to continue to provide opportunities for all of our students that will allow them to reach high levels of social and academic achievement,” said Assistant Superintendent Nisha Patel. “Having over 600 parents attend our first Summit shows us how much our parents care about this district and their children. We look forward to continuing this event into the future.”

Staff members were invited to submit presentation proposals for the event. Ultimately, nearly 50 sessions were selected on a variety of topics ranging from literacy, to AP exams, to community engagement. “Our feedback from parents was overwhelmingly positive and many said that they feel more empowered as a parent to support our students inside and outside of the school setting,” Jackson said.

“The Parent Summit was an opportunity for us to develop a true Family-School partnership,” said Dr. Patel. “We look forward to continuing the tradition of building those relationships in a way that is meaningful to parents. Their involvement helps our students find success.”
