Below is an email message from Fox C-6 Superintendent, Dr. Paul Fregeau, to the community about this change.

September 10, 2021

Dear Fox C-6 Family,

Prior to the first day of school, I shared with the entire Fox C-6 Family that Fox C-6, along with school districts across our region, is experiencing an unprecedented bus driver shortage. As you know, we adjusted the starting and ending times of 11 of our 17 schools to adjust bus routes and make sure that we could continue to provide daily transportation to all Fox C-6 students.

Unfortunately, due to ongoing construction near the Seckman campus, along with a severe bus driver shortage that has forced us to stretch some bus routes a little too much, we have seen delays in busses leaving school each afternoon. Adding to this, we are expecting additional road construction to take place in the coming months that will potentially cause additional transportation delays.

Our families, students, bus drivers, building leaders, secretaries, teachers, and nurses have done an outstanding job adjusting to these unavoidable transportation delays. However, it is clear that we have to take additional action to ensure that our bus drivers have enough time to get students home in the afternoon on all of their different routes.

As I said when we first announced the adjusted start and end times for some of our schools, our goal was, and remains, to provide consistent daily transportation to all Fox C-6 students. In order to work to meet this goal, we will need to make some additional adjustments to school start and end times. Please know that these adjustments are being made in order to provide consistent daily transportation to all of our students with the number of bus drivers available to us.

Please review the chart below to see the updated start and end times for Fox C-6 schools. These changes will take effect on Monday, September 27. These changes will keep busses from being late and alleviate the traffic coming into the Seckman campus for drop-off and pick-up each day. Your child’s updated bus pickup and drop-off schedule will be sent to you via email on Tuesday, September 21, and will also be available on the Transportation section of the district website.

These changes will not take place until September 27 in order to give our bus drivers, school staff, and families time to prepare for this change. Specifically, we need to allow time for:

  • the transportation department to assign new routes and give bus drivers time to familiarize themselves with their new routes

  • building-level staff to make necessary scheduling adjustments for staff members that are shared between buildings

  • families to plan for new bus pickup and drop-off times.

As I mentioned, one of the reasons we need to adjust school times is to account for ongoing and upcoming road construction projects on our district’s roadways. District officials will be meeting with officials from Jefferson County regularly. As different roads in our community are impacted by current and upcoming construction projects, some individual bus numbers and pickup/drop-off times may need to be adjusted. We will be sure to communicate these changes with you as soon as we become aware of them.

Thank you for your continued patience and flexibility as we work to provide consistent daily transportation to all Fox C-6 students.

Respectfully,

Dr. Paul Fregeau
